Water Sports in Goa

Surfing

Goa is a place of fun and frolick. Beaches such as Baga, Calangute, Pololem, Dona Paula, Colva, Vagator, Miramar and Bogmolo are pleasant spots for surfing under the dazzling sun. These destinations are the ultimate choice for aqua sports.
Dona Paula bay is an ideal site to start wind surfing especially if you’re a beginner. The light breeze is perfect for amateurs and the stronger ones that set during the afternoons offer a challenge to the seasoned surfers. Surfing these days is gaining popularity among the tourists in Goa and so some surfing sports event such as Open Board Sailing Competition and Windsurfing Regatta that goes on for a week are organized to encourage this sport.

Sailing

Sailing is for adventure lovers a passionate way to express their love for water; a pleasing activity that any sport or beach lover won’t mind trying out. Sailing is the best way to unwind. Staring out at the sea from a boat is the most relaxing thing you can do. You can hire dinghies from any of the hotels in Goa.

Water Skiing

If speed thrills you then water ski is a sport you just can’t miss. Imagine swooshing on the water surface and holding onto harnesses to control you. You can ride on a speed boat enter the sea and ski away on the blue tranquil waters. These boats hold 6-8 people and can be availed at beach resorts, hotels and water sports clubs.


Scuba Diving

Imagine diving to the shipwrecks belonging to the colonial period of the Portuguese. Imagine spotting mesmerizing marine life that is found in the underwater world of Goa. A number of diving options are available in Goa. Most of the diving activities take place around the Grande Island and other sites like Suzy's Wreck, Davy Jones Locker, Sail Roack, Turbo Tunnel, Surge City, Uma Guma Reef and Bounty Bay.

Some interesting low dive sites are in the waters of Vengurla and Malvan and its situated 2 hours away from Panaji. An interesting scuba diving site near Angria Bank, 120 miles away from Goa in a 4 hour high speed boat ride is a must-do if you’re an adventure lover. This island not only offers an amazing wealth of corals but also varieties of fishes to the divers. Pigeon Island is one more dive site near Goa that has fascinating aquatic life as well as first-rate visibility.

Dinghy Sailing

Due to favorable wind and weather conditions, the ship sailing is affectionately referred to as beer and sandwich sailing. The sail is smooth and can be enjoyed a lot. Instructors are available for beginners. For the less agile, Dinghy sailing is a better option. The ship has two sails and side decks where 3-4 people can sit and enjoy. The 15 feet long dinghies are available for hire at a few hotels.

Goa swimming

Being surrounded by beaches and indulging in the most obvious aqua sport swimming goes without saying. Goa lies on the warmest ocean in the world and that makes aqua sports absolutely enjoyable in this ocean. Swimming perhaps is the best way to pass time in Goa. Swimming is one of the cleanest and cheapest playgrounds available in this land of absolute heaven.

Water Sports

Water scootering is one more fun filled activity which can be indulged in at Dona Paula jetty, Cidade de Goa, Majorda, Oberoi, and Candolim beach. Parasailing is one sport which attracts high fliers amongst the speed lovers. The Taj and Oberoi provide the required tools needed for this activity.
